Canons Brook Golf Club
Join us at Canons Brook Golf Club, Harlow, on Friday 7th June 2024, for a brilliant evening with Spud and Meathook - Peter Taylor and Terry Naylor
Peter Taylor joined Crystal Palace from Southend when then manager Malcolm Allison signed him in October 1973 for £110,000. Palace were relegated at the end of that season, but Peter was named Player of the Year and remained at the club for two further seasons, becoming player of the year again in 1976. In the 1975–76 season, Third Division Palace reached the FA Cup semi-final, with Peter scoring two goals in the 5th round in a 3–2 away win at Chelsea.
Peter also made four appearances for the full England team, scoring twice, becoming one of the very few players to play for England whilst at a club outside the top two divisions.
The Palace FA Cup run was not followed by promotion however, and at the end of the season Allison resigned and was replaced by Terry Venables, who allowed Peter to leave for Spurs in September 1976 for a fee of £400,000.
Peter scored on his Tottenham debut in a 4–2 defeat at The Hawthorns to West Bromwich Albion, but had a mixed career at Spurs with the club suffering relegation in 1977 to Division Two but being promoted back to Division One in 1978. In 1980, Peter moved on to Leyton Orient, having made 123 appearances for Tottenham during which he scored 31 times.
Terry Naylor played well over three hundred games for Spurs, and is a legend among Tottenham supporters, experiencing the highs of cup victories and the lows of relegation – before going on to help Charlton win promotion in the Eighties.
Terry joined Spurs in July 1969 but was previously employed as a meat porter at London's Smithfield Market, and his tough, uncompromising style of play as a full back soon earned him the nickname of "Meathook" with the fans.
Terry featured in both legs of the 1974 UEFA Cup Final against Feyenoord and was an unused substitute in both legs of the 1972 UEFA Cup Final against Wolves.
Terry joined Charlton Athletic in November 1980 and went on to make 69 League appearances for the club.
The evening will initially consist of Peter and Terry sharing with you stories about their lives and careers at White Hart Lane and beyond, as well as no doubt their views on the current Spurs team and their prospects.
After a short break, Peter and Terry will take questions from the floor for the rest of the evening.
Doors open for Standard tickets at 7.00pm for 7.30pm, with a limited number of VIP tickets available for early access from 6.00pm for a pre-event glass of fizz and a mingle, meet and greet with Peter and Terry.

Peter Taylor joined Palace from Southend when then manager Malcolm Allison signed him in October 1973 for £110,000. Palace were relegated at the end of that season, but Peter was named Player of the Year and remained at the club for two further seasons, becoming player of the year again in 1976. Peter returned to the club in 2006 as manager but it wasn’t a successful stay and he left after 15 months at the helm.
Ian Evans joined Palace from Queens Park Rangers in September 1974, along with Venables, in an exchange deal for the brilliant but fading Don Rogers, and he quickly became a firm favourite with the fans, even scoring a hat-trick in a game against Colchester. In October 1977 playing against Fulham, Ian sustained a really bad injury in a tackle by George Best which kept him out for over two years, and sadly he never played for the club again, moving to Barnsley in 1979. In his time at Palace he played 163 games, scoring 16 goals and was capped 13 times for Wales. Ian re-joined Palace in 1984 as No.2 to Steve Coppell and played a big part in Palace’s resurrection at the end of the decade.
The evening will initially consist of Peter and Ian sharing with you stories about their lives and careers with Palace and beyond, as well as no doubt their views on the current Palace team and their prospects.
After a short break, Peter and Ian will take questions from the floor for the rest of the evening.

Ufford Park Resort, Woodbridge
Join us at the Ufford Park Resort, Woodbridge, Suffolk on Friday 12th April 2024 for an evening with Ipswich Town legend Russell Osman
Russell played nearly 400 games for Ipswich Town between 1977 and 1985, playing in every game when Ipswich won the 1980–81 UEFA Cup, and being a key member of what was one of the best teams in the country at the time under Bobby Robson, finishing as runners-up in the old First Division in successive seasons in 1980/81 and 1981/82
Making his FA Cup debut when still only eighteen, Russell also played four times in the earlier rounds when Ipswich won the FA Cup in 1978, but wasn't part of the squad for the final itself
Russell left Ipswich in the summer of 1985, subsequently playing for Leicester, Southampton Bristol City, Brighton and Cardiff, also representing England eleven times whilst at Portman Road
In 1981, along with some other Ipswich players, Russell played one of the prisoner-of-war footballers in the John Huston directed film Escape to Victory, which also included Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, Max von Sydow and World Cup winners Pelé, Ossie Ardiles, and Bobby Moore. The film was based on a game between an Allied team and a Nazi German team during the Second World War.
Our evening will consist of Russell sharing with you stories about his life and times with Ipswich Town and beyond, his acting career(!), as well as no doubt his views on the current Ipswich team and their prospects.
After a short break, Russell will take questions from the floor for the rest of the evening, which will end around 10.30-11.00pm.
Doors open for Standard tickets at 7.00pm for 7.30pm, with a limited number of VIP tickets available for early access from 6.00pm for a pre-event glass of fizz and a mingle, meet and greet with Russell.

Mercure Norwich Hotel
Join us at the Mercure Hotel, Norwich, on Friday 3rd November 2023, for a sumptuous three course meal and an evening with England and British Lions rugby legend and World Cup winner Jason Leonard, compèred by former Wales and Lions flanker, and ITV World Cup commentator John Taylor.
During his 14 year international rugby career, Jason Leonard played in four Rugby World Cups for England, who became World Champions in 2003 and he also won four Six Nations Grand Slams in that time - in 1991, 1992, 1995 and 1996.
Jason has been selected for three prestigious British & Irish Lions tours with five test appearances, including two in the victorious 1997 series win in South Africa. He played six times for the Barbarians, as well as making 290 appearances for his club, Harlequins, spanning both the amateur and professional game
Jason earned an MBE for services to sport in 2002, which became an OBE after England’s Rugby World Cup success, and was inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame in 2014.
John Taylor, Honorary President of London Welsh, played 26 times for Wales, winning a Grand Slam in 1971, two Triple Crowns and two shared titles. John also toured South Africa in 1968 and New Zealand in 1971 with the British & Irish Lions, playing all 4 tests in 1971 in a famous winning tour to New Zealand (one of 7 London Welsh players on that tour!).
In 1969/70 he refused to play for Wales against a touring South African side in a stance against the apartheid regime in that country, a decision that ultimately unfairly cost him a place in the Barbarians team that played the All Blacks in that legendary match in1973. Again in 1974 John declined the opportunity to tour with the Lions in South Africa on the same grounds.
Following retirement from his playing career, John went on to become the lead rugby commentator for ITV sport, commentating on the 2003 England Rugby World Cup victory.
