England Rugby World Champions 20th Anniversary Dinner with Jason Leonard
03/11/2023 @19:30

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Join us at the Mercure Hotel, Norwich, on Friday 3rd November 2023, for a sumptuous three course meal and an evening with England and British Lions rugby legend and World Cup winner Jason Leonard, compèred by former Wales and Lions flanker, and ITV World Cup commentator John Taylor.

During his 14 year international rugby career, Jason Leonard played in four Rugby World Cups for England, who became World Champions in 2003 and he also won four Six Nations Grand Slams in that time - in 1991, 1992, 1995 and 1996.

Jason has been selected for three prestigious British & Irish Lions tours with five test appearances, including two in the victorious 1997 series win in South Africa. He played six times for the Barbarians, as well as making 290 appearances for his club, Harlequins, spanning both the amateur and professional game

Jason earned an MBE for services to sport in 2002, which became an OBE after England’s Rugby World Cup success, and was inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame in 2014.

John Taylor, Honorary President of London Welsh, played 26 times for Wales, winning a Grand Slam in 1971, two Triple Crowns and two shared titles. John also toured South Africa in 1968 and New Zealand in 1971 with the British & Irish Lions, playing all 4 tests in 1971 in a famous winning tour to New Zealand (one of 7 London Welsh players on that tour!).

In 1969/70 he refused to play for Wales against a touring South African side in a stance against the apartheid regime in that country, a decision that ultimately unfairly cost him a place in the Barbarians team that played the All Blacks in that legendary match in1973. Again in 1974 John declined the opportunity to tour with the Lions in South Africa on the same grounds.

Following retirement from his playing career, John went on to become the lead rugby commentator for ITV sport, commentating on the 2003 England Rugby World Cup victory.

Dress code: Black tie

Doors open for Standard tickets at 7.00pm with serving of the meal starting promptly at 7.30pm.
